AN ERA OF NIFTY THINGS UNFOLDS AS

LIBERTY SCIENCE CENTER HOSTS

KID STUFF: GREAT TOYS FROM OUR CHILDHOOD

May 25, 2002 - January 6, 2003

Jersey City, NJ - May 15, 2002 - Where else can you throw Nerf balls at 'priceless' crystal, assemble Mr. Potato Head - and Carrot and Eggplant Head, or create a giant Colorform mural?

You can do all this and more when Kid Stuff: Great Toys from our Childhood, a highly imaginative exhibit opens at Liberty Science Center on May 25, 2002 and runs through January 6, 2003. Created by The Berkshire Museum, and locally sponsored by Yellow Book USA, Kid Stuff is a playful encounter with more than 40 great toys of the past fifty years presented within the contexts of invention and innovation, society and industry, and play and entertainment. Kid Stuff is a highly interactive exhibit designed to engage children and adults of all ages.

Based on the book, Kid Stuff: Great Toys from our Childhood, by David Hoffman, the exhibit presents the stories and motifs of the most popular toys and games. In fact, the stories can be as much fun as playing with the toys. Guest will learn why a Mexican Jumping Bean jumps, why a Wiffle Ball has holes, and which toys were created by engineering or scientific endeavors gone awry. There are also hundreds of classic illustrations, period advertisements, and vintage commercials on display

Toys and games in Kid Stuff are categorized according to these familiar childhood expressions:

Look What I Made - Erector Sets, Legos, Lincoln Logs, and Tinker Toys

I'll Trade Ya - Matchbox and Pez

Go Outside and Play - Balsa Planes, Flexible Flyers, Frisbees, Tonkas, and Wiffle Balls
