On exhibit are artists of varying styles and backgrounds whose images evoke nostalgia and humor. They include Vicki Berndt, Kirsten Easthope, Sam Frazier, Elaine Hindin, Christine Karas, Cheryl Kline, Deedra Ludwig, Judy Ragagli, Martha Rich, Robert Rini, Anthony Ross, and Corey Sandelius. With appearances by Bob?s Big Boy, Barbie, Dolly Parton, Marilyn Monroe, Mich?s David, Bionic Man & Woman, Lady Luck, Bad Girls, Jack Daniels, Janet & Justin, and many, many more.
Vicki Berndt, Los Angeles: Painter and Photographer, Vicki has enjoyed a successful career as a rock photographer (ie portraits of Hole, L7, GoGos), and her paintings have been featured on numerous CD covers. Her original paintings are shown in fine art galleries and are collected by admirers like Belinda Carlisle.
Kirsten Easthope, Englewood, Colorado: Kirsten?s work is done on genuine bowling pins, acquired from the best alleys around the world! Her work has shown at reknowned galleries such as Copro Nason, LA; CBGB?s 313, NY; La Luz de Jesus, LA; Tart Gallery, Vancouver; Roq la Rue, Seattle.
Sam Frazier, San Diego: A mixed media assemblage artist and a photographer, Sam has recently begun offering his mixed media works for public consumption. His emergence into the San Diego art scene is starting to cause a stir among local collectors and artists alike.
Elaine Hindin, San Diego: Elaine has been the recipient of several community grants including awards from the California Arts Council, the City of Santa Cruz, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her cartoon oracle, Fortune Kookies,has become a collector?s item with a cult following.
Christine Karas, Pasadena: Christine?s Lowbrow pin-up girl images have been featured in magazines such as Hustler, Chic, Int?l Tatoo Art, Siren, and Axcess as well as in the motion picture Hellraiser 3. Her work is also included in the Schiffer book Vicious, Delicious and Ambitious.
Cheryl Kline, Venice Beach: Cheryl?s vast art education includes a BA from Woodbury University, The Bruchion School of Realist Art, and The Florence Academy of Art in Italy. Her inventive and strikingly realistic paintings have been praised in the LA Times, Malibu Magazine, and Smithsonian Magazine. Her work can also be seen at the LACMA Artist?s Gallery.
Deedra Ludwig, Washington State: Holding a BFA from NYU, Deedra has shown extensively in fine art galleries featuring her abstract works for which she is well known. For the icon exhibit, she?s offering something different, 12? assemblage pieces.
Judy Ragagli, Los Angeles: As a photo-realistic painter working in only seven hues of oil, Judy has tackled one of the greatest female icons of all time, Barbie. ?Nuff said.
Martha Rich, Pasadena: A graduate of the Art Center College of Design and a former student of the Clayton Brothers, Martha?s illustrations have been published by RCA Records, Jane Magazine, Village Voice, LA Weekly, Smart Money, Cosmo Girl, and Entertainment Weekly. Her work has also been featured in the down-and-dirty Juxtapoz Magazine.
Robert Rini, Seattle: Robert Rini's paintings have shown at Center on Contemporary Art, Roq la Rue Gallery, and the Richard Hugo House in Seattle. His illustrations have been used by PCC Natural Foods, the Princeton Testing Institute, the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle Town Hall, and most recently La Vanguardia, in Barcelona, Spain.
Anthony Ross, Santa Ana: Anthony?s photo-realistic paintings of iconic architecture have procured numerous private and corporate commissions for his resume. His current project is the highly anticipated LA Theatres series. Gallery Saccade welcomes his Big Boy.
Corey Sandelius, Los Angeles: Art Center College of Design graduate, Corey has shown his work from LA to NYC, and has contributed work to Spin and Detour Magazines. His work can be seen in the private collections of NRG Recording Studios and members of the bands Linkin Park and Deftones.
