Authors Website to Promote Increased Book Sales Honors Award-Winning Writer

Edinboro, PA (PRWEB) November 6, 2007

Sporting a new look, and introducing its interactive community for readers and writers, the Polka Dot Banner is pleased to honor Liana Laverentz, author of the bestselling novels "Thin Ice" and "Jake's Return". Laverentz recently won the coveted Golden Leaf award, which is presented annually by the New Jersey Romance Writers, a large branch of the national Romance Writers of America.

Says Laverentz, "I feel the Polka Dot Banner has helped me to have a positive and professional presence on the Internet, a place where readers can go to find out more about me, my books, and the books of my fellow authors."

The Polka Dot Banner, also known as the "PDB," is a site that utilizes the power of numbers to increase attention to its members' books. "Not everyone is Stephen King, Jackie Collins, or John Grisham," says Jamie Saloff, fellow author and site owner. "Authors have to work harder today to capture their market."

In the old days, authors could rely on their publisher to do the sales and promotion work for them. Not anymore. Those days are gone for all but a chosen few. Today, most publishing houses expect their authors to have a ready-made platform and to generate sales (or exposure) on their own.

Unfortunately, most writers, many who are specialists in their field of expertise or even bestsellers in their genre, don't know the first thing about sales and promotion. They've focused all their talents on honing their craft and writing the best book they possibly can.

The goal of the Polka Dot Banner is to guide authors with simple self-promotion steps they can easily complete in five to ten minutes, and to create an overall cooperative of authors who will help each other to generate sales.

The PDB's founding principle is "there is strength in numbers". And it's working. "I had great sales this month!" writes Mary McGovern, author of The Reason We Are Here - The Truth. "Thank you for all the work you're doing with the PDB." McGovern, who has little time to promote her book, is grateful for the help offered by a multi-author site.

A long-time web designer and Internet marketer, Saloff knows that a one-author website can only garner so much exposure amid a sea of billions of other websites. However, she is proving how a multi-author site, where everyone works together promoting their books, multiplies an author's exposure times the number of all of its members. "Even if each author only does a little," says Saloff, "it benefits all of the site's members when their blog, press release, website link, or forum posting brings visitors to the site. Every little bit helps, and the member's efforts have led to the site's growth causing site hits to double month after month."

"The Polka Dot Banner has been a great promotional boost for my first thriller novel, "Unholy Grail," which reached number 9 and 8 on the National Nielsen Bookscan ratings behind Nicholas Sparks, Stephen King, and Danielle Steele," says author and PDB member D. L. Wilson.

"I like PDB's aura and its simplicity," offers Perry Foster, author of "Hands Upon My Heart: My Journey Through Heart Disease and Into Life." "I clicked on my picture, copied 'my book,' 'about me,' and 'my reviews,' and sent it to our local newspaper. It got me my first feature story." Perry's book received the most author votes by visitors to the site in October which won him a featured position on the site.

The author listings provide quick information to viewers about members and their books including, speaking engagement availability, links to their personal blogs and websites, as well as awards and reviews they have garnered. "I wanted to make the site as easy as possible to use, while keeping a professional look," says Saloff. "I love the exposure gained from sites like MySpace and The Author's Den, but the blinking ads and self-created designs often do not lend a look of professionalism to the author."

The PDB offers different plan levels based on author need. The cost ranges from $ 10 per month for a basic listing, to more expensive "we do it for you plans" where listings are built for the author who either doesn't have time or the technical know how to create and maintain an Internet presence.

The PDB can also serve as an inexpensive, starter website for authors looking to get on the web fast for little expense. "That's what I did," says "Thin Ice" author Liana Laverentz. "I knew I had a book coming out and no clue about how to build a website. The PDB has given me a comfortable home for my links, reviews, and book news until I can find the time to create my own website. And when I do, I'll still be with the PDB. You can't beat the exposure."

For more information about Liana Laverentz and her award-winning novel, "Thin Ice," visit the PDB's "Featured" link to read an in-depth interview, or visit her profile listing on the PDB. To learn more about the PDB, visit http://www.polkadotbanner.com.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 02, 2011

An internationally recognized pioneer in emotional and physical healing, Ana Forrest has been transforming people?s lives for more than forty years. But her life wasn?t always full of strength and purpose. In fact, as a young girl Ana Forrest raided her parents? liquor cabinet, smoked cigarettes, toked weed, and popped pills. These extreme measures were Forrest?s attempt to calm the raging storms within her body: paralysis, epilepsy, bulimia, and inflicted physical and sexual abuse.

At the age of fourteen, Forrest attended her first yoga class as a dare; the practice hooked her immediately. Now the internationally acclaimed founder of Forrest Yoga brings her transformative techniques off the mat and into daily life in Fierce Medicine: Breakthrough Practices to Heal the Body and Ignite the Spirit (HarperOne; May 2011; Hardcover; $ 25.99).

Through the lens of her own harrowing story, Forrest distills and shares her wisdom and experience with a yoga practice anyone can do. Forrest teaches people to ?stalk fear,? ?walk free of pain,? and learn the art of ?truth speaking? through her highly developed understanding of the human body and psyche, eastern wisdom, and Native American practices. This pioneering style dismantles the emotional and mental blocks that dictate and limit people?s lives, creating a powerful way to move through past grievances and hurt. Whether battling an addiction, eating disorder, injury, or chronic pain, readers will reconnect with their bodies, cultivate balance, speak and act with compassion and honesty, and learn to live in wholeness and health.

Having freed herself from the bondage of trauma, Forrest works with everyone from celebrities to active military personnel to ?clear through the stuff that hardens them and sickens their bodies so they can walk freely and lightly in a healing way.? Whether you have never done yoga or are a seasoned practitioner, Forrest will help you uncover your own warrior?s heart. With this wise woman as your trusted guide, you, too, can become centered, strong, and more alive than ever before.

Praise for Fierce Medicine:

?Fierce Medicine is a brave, confronting, and unapologetically honest book that leads us to see into the depths of our soul and know that transformation is possible. Through stories and techniques Ana Forrest teaches us how to reclaim our bodies, expand our perceptions, and embrace the complexity of our spirit. As a teacher, this is a book that I would certainly share with my students, but as a student myself, there is much in this book that will aid in my own growth and for that I am grateful. I highly recommend this book to all seekers on the path.?

? Seane Corn, internationally acclaimed yoga teacher and founder of ?Off the Mat, Into the World?

?Fierce Medicine is much more than just another yoga book. It?s the ?crazy wisdom? and riveting life story of an in-your-face, stir-it-up kind of teacher. Ana Forrest also happens to be an amazing healer, one who regularly guides her students into personal transformations and deep healing. What she asks may not be easy, but few things this good are.?

? Timothy McCall, MD, Medical Editor, Yoga Journal, author of Yoga as Medicine

?Fierce Medicine is a journey from the wounded to the healed soul using the grace and elegance of yoga as a guide. Only a master teacher like Ana Forrest, renowned for her ferocious determination, could accomplish such a rigorous task. Ana Forrest has given us all the best of herself in this book.?

New Book Inspires Children to Read

Plain City, OH (PRWEB) November 18, 2011

Children today live in the wonderful and exciting time of ever-changing electronics, with a gadget always at their fingertips. A need, however, exists for children to explore, imagine, pretend, read and listen to the sounds around them, carry on conversations, and freely experience and touch life. To excite children to read once again, author Eleanor Roby has penned a new book of children?s short stories, Have You Ever? (published by WestBow Press).

In the story, ?A Day of Surprises,? Andrew, who has two imaginary friends named Big Todd and Tapioca, lives in the country at the end of a long lane. Andrew has quite the unusual day as he found a lion peering into the window, an elephant stepped onto the porch, and a monkey was swinging tree to tree. An accident nearby provided wild animals on the loose and Andrew?s own private circus!

In ?A Ghost,? Joel and his brother rode their bicycles to their grandmother?s house to visit and play games. While their grandmother finished her laundry, the boys went to explore the barn and to see the animals. When returning to the house they stopped by the huge sandbox in the corner of the yard that Grandpa had built. While in the sandbox, however, the boys face a turn of events that cause some exciting and scary moments. Could it possibly be a ghost?

Have You Ever? is a must-have collection for young children. It will not only entertain them, but also inspire them to turn off the videogames and sit down with a good book.

About the Author

Eleanor Roby was born and raised in the rich farming and rural area of Central Ohio. Roby?s love for God has inspired her involvement in numerous teaching and leadership positions over the years with youth and adults in her church and local community. New Book by Author Rick Cook Highlights Exciting New Opportunities for Authors, Readers

(PRWEB) July 19, 2011

?Shift Happens: The New E-Publishing Paradigm And What It Means For Writers,? by Rick Cook, is about the exciting changes in the publishing industry and the opportunities it offers to authors and readers. It is currently available on Amazon Kindle for $ 2.99.

?Ebooks enormously increase choices for readers and put authors instead of publishers in the driver's seat,? says Rick Cook, noted science fiction author who wrote the book based on his experiences with conventional and e-publishing.

Cook says the book's price of $ 2.99 reflects the changes. ?The fact is that ebooks are so cheap to publish that authors can cut their prices substantially and still make money. If ?Shift Happens? were published in the regular manner it would be a $ 15 or $ 20 book.?

?The choice also becomes much greater with ebooks,? Cook says. ?With no publisher to act as gatekeeper a lot more books will be available.? Cook notes that not all ebooks are of high quality, but many of them are.

The ebook model also offers major advantages for authors as well. ?With ebooks authors don't have to mess with the dysfunctional and increasingly closed system of conventional publishing,? says Cook, who has 6 science fiction and fantasy novels in print. ?If the book satisfies the author, that's all it takes.?

This is in sharp contrast to conventional publishing where the opportunities for authors, especially new ones, have been shrinking as publishers' outmoded business model produces more economic stress.

?John Grisham's first book was rejected by 28 publishers,? Cook points out. ?Louis L'Amour collected 350 rejections. What would have happened if Grisham had stopped after the 27th rejection? Or L'Amour after 200 or so? How many wonderful books are sitting in desk drawers because the authors folded under the avalanche of rejection??

?The amazing thing is how quickly this has happened,? Cook says. ?The first big uptick in ebook sales came in November and December of 2010 and Amazon's announcement of a 70 percent royalty rate in January 2011 sealed the deal.?

Cook noted that several ebook millionaires went from selling only a few copies of their ebooks in 2010 to selling hundreds of thousands of copies a month in 2011.

Cook cautions that ebooks are not a get-rich-quick scheme. ?The fact is that you have to work hard,? he said. ?First you need a good book and then you have to promote it heavily to get noticed and drive sales. It's not difficult, but it is work, work that has to continue as long as you want the book to keep selling.?

Cook also points out that most of the major outlets have no upfront costs to the author. ?It's essentially free to publish your book,? Cook says. ?The publisher makes money off the sales of the book, not the author.?

The name of the book ?Shift Happens? came from Cook's friend and fellow author, the late G. Harry Stine.

?Harry used to say that the thing about paradigms is that shift happens,? Cook recalls. ?He was sure right about ebooks.?

?Shift Happens: The New E-Publishing Paradigm? is available for $ 2.99 from Amazon Books Kindle Store.
